July 19, 1945 - The Anamosa Journal

OLIN - Mrs. Brodina Lorenzen, 87, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl M. Levsen at Clarence, Tuesday, July 17, at about 4 a.m. Funeral service will be held at the Harrington Funeral home in Wyoming Friday at 2:30 p.m., with burial in the family lot at the Wyoming cemetery.

Other surviving children are Mrs. R. C. Dethmann and Mrs. Anna Levsen, Clarence; and Louis, Olin. Mrs. Lorenzen was a resident of Jones county for more than 65 years.

OLIN - Funeral service for Mrs. Brodina Lorenzen, 87, who died July 17 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl M. Levsen, in Clarence, was held Friday afternoon at the Harrington Funeral Home in Wyoming, with the Rev. Mittler, of the Evangelical church of Clarence in charge. Burial was made in the Wyoming cemetery.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Arnold Dethman, Marvin Dethman, Vetrus Lorenzen, Louis Levsen, Carl Levsen and Max Levsen. Granddaughters, Alta Cashman, Helen Norton, Viola Dethman and Lois Ruther, asisted with the flowers.

Brodina Joanne Christophersen was born at Langerhorn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, April 12, 1858, the daughter of Ingwer and Bottilla Christophersen. She was educated in her native country, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the age of 13.

When 19 years old she came to this country and settled in Clinton county. She married S. Matthias Lorenzen Jan. 28, 1879. Eight children were born to this union.

Surviving are five children, Helen, Mrs. R. C. Dethman, Clarence; Julius, Olin; Mrs. Anna Levsen, Clarence; Amanda, Mrs. Carl M. Levsen, Clarence; Louis, Olin. Two daughters died in childhood, and a son, Bernhart, died in the service of his country Oct. 23, 1918, in a hospital in Devon, England. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and a brother, August Christopherson, Clarence.
