Alexander S., eldest son of Alexander and Elizabeth Strong Robertson, was born March 16, 1889, at Dundee, Perthshire, Scotland. As an infant he was baptized in the Presbyterian faith of his parents. With them he came to America in 1892 and located on a farm near Amber, Iowa. During his early years he helped with the farm work and attended rural school. He attended the Omaha Business college where he received high honors for his studies in commerce and accounting.

In 1911, Alex accepted the position of assistant cashier in the Citizens Savings bank in Anamosa. He resigned this post in 1918 to enter the Army in World war One and received his honorable discharge in late 1919.

He became cashier of the Amber Savings bank, place he held for 10 years, resigning to go into business with the Auto Sales Co., Anamosa. In 1933, he accepted the position of deputy country treasurer, taking charge of the auto license department, resigning in 1939.

After serving two years as city assessor of Anamosa, he was forced to give up full-time employment because of failing health. However, since the death of his father in 1922, he carried on the management of the Robertson Bros. farm, as owner, with J. H. Husmann, tenant.

Surviving are two brothers, William W. and Peter S., a nephew, James A. Robertson, and niece, Karen Robertson, all of Anamosa.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge and the Elks in addition to the Legion.
