SCOTCH GROVE--Mrs. Kathleen May Hughes Norris, Scotch Grove, died Thursday, Dec. 12, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Presbyterian church, Scotch Grove. Rev. Gerald Shibley conducted the service. Burial was in Scotch Grove cemetery.

Pallbearers included Jack Naylor, Burlington; Russett Hughes, Marion; Howard Zirkelbach and Noel Ostrander, Center Junction; and Paul E. Paulsen and Edwin Heigens, Scotch Grove.

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lacock, Wyoming, and Mrs. Howard Zirkelbach, Center Junction, were musicians.

She was born Jan. 7, 1905, daughter of the late G. J. and Mrs. Hughes, Scotch Grove. She attended township school and graduated from Monticello public high school in 1922, and Coe college, Cedar Rapids in 1927.

She taught schools in the township and in Monticello before her marriage to Robert Norris in 1939. Couple made their home on a farm between Scotch Grove and Center Junction.

She was active in community affairs. She had been a member of the Scotch Grove Presbyterian church for a number of years and had taught junior high and younger children. She also assisted with the summer Bible school.

At the time of her death she was participating in the preparation of the annual Christmas program for children for this year; also was beginning the second year of a two-year term of office as president of the local UPW. She had served many years as clerk at the annual congregational meeting of the church. She had been a member of the Scotch Grove Women's Community club for many years and had held offices in the organization.

Survivors include her children, Sp/4 Robert H. Norris, stationed with the army in northern England; and Barbara, doing graduate work at the State University of Iowa, Iowa City; her mother, Mrs. G. J. Hughes, Scotch Grove; a brother, L. James Hughes, Scotch Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Richard Hanken, Monticello, and Mrs. Jack Feddler, Ind., and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and father.

Among those to attend funeral services were her son, Robert, who was flown home from England to be with his mother, prior to her death; her daughter, Barbara, Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Feddler, Indiana; Mrs. Lloyd Christensen, Marshalltown; Russett Hughes, Marion, and a number of school friends of Miss Norris from Iowa City.
