Timothy "Tim" E. Watters, 71, of Anamosa, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, at his home after a short illness. Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at Wilcox Cemetery, Viola, Iowa, at a later date.
Tim was born March 29, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of George and Mary (Sweiger) Watters. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1965 and then attended Wentworth Military Academy, where he graduated in 1967. Tim joined the U.S. Army and attended basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. From there he went to Aberdeen, Md., and trained as a rifleman before being sent to Vietnam in the 5th Division. From July 1968 through July 1969, Tim drove the Red Ball Express Highway 1 in Vietnam daily taking supplies from camp to camp. Upon returning from Vietnam, he completed his service at Fort Knox, Ky., being honorably discharged in 1971. On July 2, 1975, in Anamosa, Tim was united in marriage to Nancy Young.
He was employed as a plant manager for Bard Concrete for 39 years. Tim was also a member of the Anamosa Fire Department for 15 years, serving as chief for two years. He was an active member of the Anamosa Jaycees, Anamosa American Legion and the Anamosa VFW. Tim loved fishing trips to Minnesota with his family, tractor rides on his John Deere 2510D with all of his buddies, and spending time in his shop doing woodworking and welding projects. He also had a lifelong interest in steam locomotives. Tim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 43 years, Nancy Watters; daughters, Amy Watters of North Liberty and Brooke Watters of Minneapolis, Minn.; brother, Tom (Shari Rolfsness-Watters) Watters of Grass Valley, Calif.; sister, Mary Ann (Brenda) Watters of Maple Grove, Minn.; niece, Rochele (Norm) Watters-Kniess and their children, Krystal and Klea of Tampa, Fla.; and many cousins. Tim is also survived by his beloved furry friends Lily, Wilson and Sydney.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents.
