Services were held May 7 for Daniel K. Dirks, 27, at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, with burial at the Wyoming cemetery. The Rev. James Mattson and the Rev. Alfred Burlingame officiated at the services.
Mr. Dirks, formerly of the Wyoming area and most recently of Port Byron, Ill., died May 4 at the American International Hospital in Zion, Ill.

He was born in Maquoketa Aug. 26, 1955, the son of Donald and Mary Hansen Dirks. He was a 1973 graduate of Midland High School and a 1978 graduate of Northeast Missouri State College. He taught summer baseball in 1979 in Olin. Most recently, he had been teaching health and physical education and was coaching football and basketball at Riverdale High School in Port Byron, Ill. The past four years he had been active in the Quad City fast pitch softball league.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Dirks of Monmouth; two sister, Debra Hronik of Davenport and Sharon Dirks of Monmouth; two brothers, Jeffrey Dirks of Wyoming and Steven Dirks of Monmouth; one nephew, a grandmother, Katherine Dirks of Wyoming; and his fiancée, Theresa DeGrande of Moline, Ill. Preceding him in death were his father, maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather.

Casket bearers were D.J. Smith, Richard Petersen, Jack Carbee, Paul Meyers, Sam Guzzo and Ronald Robinson.
