Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 07, 2006 at Lahey Funeral Homes, Wyoming, Iowa Rev. Timothy Miller officiating. The family has honored her wishes and her body has been cremated. Memorials may be given to the Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, Iowa.
Visitation: 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 07, 2006 at Lahey Funeral Home, Wyoming, Iowa

Verna Allen Mais was born on April 14, 1919 in Wyoming, Iowa, daughter of Austin Theodore and Emma (Hershberger) Allen. She graduated from Wyoming High School in 1937. She attended I.S.T.C. in Cedar Falls and graduated from Scoville Business College in Clinton, Iowa. On November 21, 1942, she married Rowland E. Mais of Rockville Center, New York. He died on June 27, 1992.

She was employed at Swift & Co. in Chicago, Illinois, Grumman Aircraft Corp., Long Island, New York and Pax River Naval Air Station. She enjoyed baking and square dancing.

She is survived by three sons, Rowland (Susan) Mais of Anamosa, Sid (Patty) Mais of Bainbridge Island, WA. and Lenny (Jane) Mais of Coggon; four grandchildren, Sheri (Randy) Jones of Anamosa, Christopher (Irene) Mais of Boston, MA, Michelle Mais of Marion and Dean Mais of Coggon; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Tucker Jones of Anamosa. Verna is also survived by one brother, Stanley Allen of Olin, a sister-in-law, Letha Allen of Chapin, and many nieces and nephews.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, John, Theodore, Jacob and Robert Allen, and one sister, Leah Davis.
Verna A. Mais of Wyoming, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at the Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, following a lengthy illness, at the age of 86 years.
