Marvin A. Soenksen, 82, of Wautoma, Wis., formerly of Olin, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, suddenly at his residence in Wisconsin. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Olin with the Rev. Timothy Miller officiating. Burial will be held in the Wyoming Cemetery, with military honors accorded by American Legion Blayney Miner Ahrendsen Post 412 of Olin. Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hayden & Lahey Funeral Home in Olin. Marvin A Soenksen was born April 13, 1921, in Nashville, Iowa, the son of Alvin F. and Louise W. (Busch) Soenksen. He married Eleanor Westphal on Sept. 11, 1944, in Olin, Iowa. She preceded him in death.

Marvin served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed for many years in the Kingston/Dalton area until his retirement. Marvin operated a tavern in Dalton and also built homes. He enjoyed playing in the Aunt Charlene and Cousin Eleanor polka band. Marvin moved to Wautoma in 2000, and worked part time for Lalor Automotive of Montello.

He is survived by one son, Steven Soenksen, San Diego, and his friend, Deanna and her sons; one sister, Eloise Herren, Marion; his dear friend and companion, June Mankowski, and her family, Wautoma. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
