Dorothy Marion Picray, 85, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, in the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Donald Schmitt will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello, with a parish Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Dorothy was born July 16, 1921, in rural Oxford Junction, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Maruna) Ruley. On July 7, 1942, she married Eugene M. Picray in Ventura, Calif. Together they farmed in the Monticello area until retirement in 1994.

Dorothy had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and of its Guild. Her life in later years revolved around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often baby-sitting or just spending time playing cards or dominoes. She was an avid bingo player who also enjoyed cooking for her family, friends and neighbors.

She is survived by two sons, Gene Jr. and Ronald (Jane) Picray, both of Monticello; three daughters, Judy (Duane) Sternhagen of Hopkinton, Connie (Jerry) Breitbach of Cascade and Marlene (Dan) Moats of Monticello; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Josephine (Bud Mayfield) Behne of Oxford Junction; a brother, Joseph (Lorna) Ruley of Oxford Junction; and a sister-in-law, Nadine Ruley of Oxford Junction.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, on Aug. 15, 1997; her son, Gerald John; a brother, John Ruley; a daughter-in-law, Peg Picray; and a great-granddaughter, Amy Jean Sisson.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
