Daryl “Red” Bodkin, 89, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was born June 25, 1928 to Harry and Gladys (Pieper) Bodkin. He graduated from Olin High School in 1946 and married Norma Smith July 25, 1948.

Red was a hard worker and did whatever it took to care for his family. He worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for several years. He and his brother, Bus owned Bodkin Bros. Phillips 66 in Olin. He owned his own rock truck and had a share in the interstate 80 project! He retired from Wendling Quarries where he was the loader operator at the Olin Quarry. He enjoyed his retirement by traveling to Mt. View, AR. Several times a year for over 14 years. He and Norma made many wonderful friends and enjoyed the Ozark Folk Center and the music.

He is survived by his daughter Trudy (Randy) Fisher, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many good friends. Red was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, his wife and 2 sons, John and Barry.

To honor his wish there will be a short service at the Green Cemetery in Morley on Saturday December 2, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. A simple half hour visitation will be held at Lahey and Dawson Funeral Home in Olin on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Memorials may be left to the family in his honor.
