Last rites for Victor A. Shima, 72, rural Solon, were held at Iowa City Feb. 16 with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. Mr. Shima died at Veterans hospital, Iowa City, Feb. 13 after a short illness.

Mr. Shima was born Oct. 20, 1894, in Cedar county, the son of Joseph and Mary Plashil Shima. He married Bessie Cilek Oct. 1, 1924, at Solon, and farmed southwest of Solon most of his life.

He was a member of St. Mary's church, Newport, and the American Legion at Solon.

He was township clerk and assessor for Newport Township for 44 years.

Surviving are his widow; a son, Glenn, Solon; a daughter, Betty Shima, Solon; 2 grandchildren and 2 brothers, Joe, Iowa City and Frank, Solon.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers.
