David “Dave” Robert Ipsen, 84, of Lone Tree passed away June 14, 2022 at Mercy Hospital.

Visitation will be Monday, June 20, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, where the rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family of David Ipsen.

Dave was born November 28, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa to John and Maxine (Hyder) Ipsen. He graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1956 and earned his associates degree from Kirkwood Community College. Dave proudly served in the United States Army during The Korean War. He married Shirley Fischlein in 1970 and together had two children Joe and Beth, before later divorcing.

Dave was first and foremost a farmer, but he also worked at The University of Iowa for 37-years. It was there that he met his wife, Janis Chapman. The couple got married on October 3, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills, and enjoyed more than 20 memorable and loving years together. Her love and devotion remained strong throughout his long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, up until his last breath.

He was a member of the Lone Tree American Legion, Lions Club and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Dave was happiest when surrounded by family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and loved Janis’s family as his own.

He is survived by his wife Janis Ipsen of Lone Tree, IA; two children Elizabeth Ipsen (Vic Aye) of Fairbanks, AK, and Joseph Ipsen of Nederland, CO; grandson Xavier Ipsen of Nederland, CO; sister Mary Shaw of Rio Rancho, NM; two step-daughters Michele Streigle of Grinnell, IA, and Marcia Chapman of Anchorage, AK; six granddaughters Ashlee (Eric) Ayers of Charles City, IA, Amanda (Rob) Flack of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Brandy (Matthew) Miller of Monroe, IA, Keland Roberts (Diego Martin) of Eddyville, IA, Irene Roberts of Eddyville, IA and LaVonne Roberts of Eddyville, IA, and six great-grandchildren Quinton Glandon, Sophia Patterson, Billy Flack, Adrian Martin, Alivia Martin and Damian Martin.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and an infant granddaughter Shiloh.
