Larry LuVerne Freeman was given life by his creator and was born on August 20, 1943, in Ethan, South Dakota, the son of Don Sylvanus and Ruth Eloise (Tanner) Freeman. Larry was reborn as a child of God through water and the Word in Holy Baptism at the United Methodist Church in Ethan. He publicly confessed his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and was confirmed on April 4, 1965, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Springfield, South Dakota, by Rev. Walter E. Rose.

Larry was united in holy marriage to Twyla Anet Dubs on June 6, 1965, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Freeman, South Dakota, by Rev. Willard E. Koch and was blessed with 56 years of married life together. God also blessed them with the gift of four sons, William Todd, Vince Patrick, Ryan James, and Jeremy Michael.

Larry was a 1961 graduate of Ethan High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from Southern State College in Springfield, and his Master’s from USD in Vermillion. He taught high school science and computers for 34 years, notably at West Liberty High School for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1999. He and Twyla owned and operated T&L Printing in West Liberty from 1988 to 1999. He then worked at ACT in Iowa City for ten years, retiring in 2009. Larry was a member of Rotary International for many years.

Larry had many hobbies and loves. He enjoyed music, camping, food, candy, learning, and keeping his mind busy. After he turned 50, he became serious about bicycling, completing seven RAGBRAI rides. He and Twyla loved to travel, and they saw many locales across the US and around the world. They also traveled often to see their grandkids, and he enjoyed spending time with them. In his later years, he took up woodworking, making dozens of cutting boards, which he gave away and sold to raise money for different causes.

Larry was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. He held numerous positions in the church, including Elder, bookkeeper, IT consultant, and office manager. He was a longtime member of the choir and also played bass in the praise team. Our faithful Lord sustained him in his faith even up to his death. On September 9, 2021, God called Larry home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Leonard and Irene (Ibis) Dubs; a brother, James Freeman; and a sister-in-law, Marlys Freeman.

Surviving are Larry’s wife, Twyla of the home; their four sons, Bill (Angie) Freeman of Des Moines, IA, Vince (Emily) Freeman of Ft. Collins, CO, Ryan (Julie) Freeman of Golden Valley, MN, and Jeremy (Nikki) Freeman of Sedalia, MO; eight grandchildren, Kristen, Joey, Leo, Gavin, Riley, Chase, Ben, and Archer; two brothers, Richard (LaVonne) Freeman of Durant, OK, and Melvin (Jean) Freeman of Ethan, SD; a sister, Carol Freeman of Minneapolis, MN; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
