Elizabeth Ann Herren Adams

Betty Adams of Coralville, Iowa, passed away from natural causes on July 22nd at the age of 91.

Betty was born on August 12, 1929, to George and Hannah (Otten) Herren in Amber, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen, and her three sisters, Ruth Herren, El Verna Bergen, and Alice Rieken.

After graduating from high school in Anamosa in 1946, Betty took a job at the phone company. She married Glen Adams on February 18, 1948, at the Little Brown Church. They lived on the family farm north of Monticello where Betty was a wife and mother and worked as a cook for Monticello Schools. Following Glen’s death in 1992, Betty eventually settled in Iowa City where she continued to work as a school cook. In retirement, she experienced several rewarding years as a volunteer at elementary schools, listening to and helping children learn how to read.

Surviving Betty are her four children: Jane Briggs of Lexington, OK, Nancy Regennitter of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jody Howells of Mooresburg, TN and Thomas Adams of St. Louis, MO. She also had five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

It was important to Betty to read her Bible and devotions. Chapter 3 of Ecclesiastes was most meaningful to her. She often challenged family and friends to “Dare to be a Daniel.”

Betty loved to bake and will be remembered for her legendary cinnamon rolls and Rice Krispy bars. She was passionate about education and learning. A voracious reader, Betty loved lively and meaningful discussions. In her memory, please consider donating a book to a school, library, or program.

The family wishes to thank Windmill Manor for their care. A private service is being planned.
