Bernice K. King, 94, formerly of Ottumwa & Bloomfield, passed away Monday, July 20, 2021 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 27th from 11:00 am to noon, at the Church of the Open Bible in Bloomfield. Funeral Services will begin at noon at the church. A luncheon will be served following the service. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel South Cemetery in rural Davis County.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvary Open Bible Church in Ottumwa or Church of the Open Bible in Bloomfield. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.

Born March 8, 1927 in Bloomfield, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Helen (Hill) Ashmead, Bernice grew up in the Bloomfield area and graduated from Davis County High School.

Bernice met and later married Charles W. King on May 18, 1947 in Bloomfield. A pastors wife, Bernice raised her family and supported her husband, Pastor Charles W. King, in all of the churches and communities that he served. Along with Charles as pastor, Bernice was the church pianist in each church her husband served.

Bernice and Charles also owned and operated King’s Hearing Aid Service in Ottumwa for many years.

Survivors include her children, Mia King Solomon of Iowa City, Charlene Hansen of Ottumwa and Daniel King of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Quinn Hansen, Cassandra Hansen, Riley Hansen and Ethan Stangl and a son in law, David Stangl of Arlington, Texas.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, a daughter Judy Stangl and a son in law, Stanley Solomon.
