James F. “Jim” York, 86 longtime resident of the North Liberty/Iowa City area died Monday, January 18, 2021.

No public services are being planned; burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory to Iowa City Hospice. To share a thought, memory or condolence with his family please visit the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.

James Franklin York was born February 16, 1934, in Iowa City the son of Samuel and Anita (Carney) York. He was united in marriage to Mary Beeler. Prior to a long career as an arborist with the University of Iowa Jim had worked at Barbara’s Bake Shoppe, and Noel’s Tree Service. In retirement Jim enjoyed being a greeter at HyVee and Target.

His family includes his two children, John Samuel York (Kim) and Lisa Godwin (Chris); 5 grandchildren, James Godwin (Lynn), John Godwin (Arielle), Jordan Godwin, Kelsey Blount (Tyler) and Jason York; 3 great-grandchildren, Christopher Godwin (C.J), Lily Godwin, and Frannie Blount; a special nephew, Randy Noel (Deb); special friends, Kathleen, Hernan and Christopher Castro and Connie Stellinga (Mark).

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, children, Dean York, Ginny York and Lori York; siblings, Samuel York, Mary Noel, Minnie Roth, Julia Collinson, and Marcella Van Dorpe; special friend, Noel Johnson; and special four legged friend, Ziggy.
