Lawrence “Larry” Kerf, age 69, of rural Iowa City, died at his home Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

Larry was born August 13, 1951, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the son of Donald J and Mayme (Brownell) Kerf. He attended and later graduated from Lone Tree High School in the class of 1969. One of Larry's first jobs was working at Stutsmans in Hills. He later moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he was an over the road truck driver for MCT Transportation and later a heavy equipment operator for Myrl and Roy's. In 1993, he moved back to the family farm in Johnson County, IA. Larry had a love for gardening and enjoyed sharing his many tomatoes and variety of vegetables and melons with his family and friends. He also cherished the many memories he made by spending time with those he loved. While living in Sioux Falls, Larry enjoyed country dancing with The Kickers. They performed several shows throughout the Sioux Falls area during the years. He also enjoyed participating in reenactments of the Civil War during small town celebrations. You could also find Larry rooting on the Iowa Hawkeyes and his favorite NFL football team.
Those who knew him loved him for his heart of gold and mischievous smile. He was one to enjoy the simple things in life like race cars, country music, western movies and many phone conversations.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer Kerf-McMath (Kelly), Gary Kerf and Shavaun Kerf; four grandchildren, Zachary Russell, Rebecca McMath, Jacob McMath and Javin Kerf; siblings, Linda Davis, Robert Kerf (Elaine), Daniel Kerf (Barb), and Jacqueline Miller (Jimmy); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
A time for family and friends to gather will be held from 2 to 5 pm Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Family graveside services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.
