Mark E. Bedell, 65, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at VAMC in Iowa City.

Mark’s wishes were for his family to host a Celebration of Life at the Iowa City VFW, #3949, on November 23rd, beginning at 10:30 am and through the end of the Iowa Hawkeye game!

Memorials may be directed to the Iowa City VFW #3949.

Mark was born October 30, 1953 in Iowa City, the son of George and Betty (Goldzier). He grew up in Iowa City and graduated from U-High / University High School in 1972.

Mark served in the US Army in the Republic of Korea during the Vietnam War. He married Diane McMann in 1993 in Iowa City.

Mark worked at the Iowa City VAMC for 30 years in various departments -retiring in 2015. He was a big Hawkeye fan and enjoyed fishing and gardening. In his earlier years, he loved to play golf and shoot pool. Mark had a wonderful and playful sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Diane; children, Joseph Stodola (Brandi) of Georgia, Jen Ketelsen (Mike) of Cedar Rapids and Justina Stodola of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Colbie Ketelsen, Cru Ketelsen, Logan Stodola and Lawson Stodola;.sister, Barb Gartner; brothers, Bruce Bedell (Claudia) and Dr. David Bedell (Ruth), all of Iowa City; in-laws, Dr. Francis C. McMann Jr. (Caroline) and David Newmister and Mary Jo McMann.

He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Jodie and Drew Gartner, Ruth Maria, Alan Bedell (Kirsten) and Tatiana Bedell and many McMann nieces too numerous to list; dear first cousins, Eric Ringena & his children, Ben, Ethan and Jason and Dirk Ringena; step-brothers and sisters, Judy Hummel Damore, Jeffrey (Beatrice Gandara) Hummel, Eric (Heidi) Hummel, Deborah (Walter) Hodges and Andrew (Cheryl) Hummel-Schluger

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Paul, his step-mother, Mirriel Bedell, father-in-law, Francis C. McMann Sr. and a sister-in-law, Kim (McMann) Newmister.
