Rodney Louis "Rod" Usher, 40, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and formerly of Delmar, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, October 8, 2018, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.

A celebration of Rod's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday, October 15, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Delmar, Iowa.

Rodney Louis Usher was born on November 3, 1977 in Iowa City, Iowa to Deb Usher. He grew up in Delmar and was a 1996 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School where he enjoyed sports and proudly participated in basketball and football. After high school, Rod spent time between Colorado and Iowa. He had worked as a landscaper by trade both in Colorado and Iowa, most notably for Kent Bennis at Forever Green and Kye Bennis at Irish Hill Lawn and Landscape in Delmar, Iowa.

Rod was a social person who loved to visit with friends and family. He was a sports enthusiast and an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and the Maquoketa Cardinals. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing basketball with local guys on Sunday nights, and for many years he looked forward to and participated in the annual Maquoketa Alumni Basketball tourney.

Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Deb Usher of Wheat Ridge, CO; his dog Kasie and his cat Bo; aunts and uncles, Becky Grandick of Delmar, IA, Karen (Rick) DeMoss of Maquoketa, IA, Rick (Malise) Usher of Delmar, IA, Kim (Kevin) Clark of Monmouth, IA and Kathy Moore of Delmar, IA; and ten cousins, Deanna Grandick, Will Grandick, Cody Moore, Preston Moore, Eric Usher, Timothy Baca, Travis Usher, Melinda Usher, Hailey Usher and Trent Usher. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Louis and Delores Usher, his cousin Michael DeMoss, and his cat Hawkeye.
