Mr. Marion Lamar Stewart, 92, of Coralville, Iowa, passed away peacefully from natural causes at Solon Nursing Care Center on October 4, 2018.

Born the oldest of 4 siblings February 24, 1926 in Shelby County, Missouri to Kenneth Wesley and Leona (Gaines) Stewart. He always joked that he was older than sliced bread, which was first sold in 1928. He was married to Barbara Jane Swisher on August 25, 1946 also in Shelby County, Missouri where they started their 72-year journey together. He was a devoted husband who showed pride in being the father of 3 spirited daughters.

A WWII Navy Veteran, he served as a motor machinist’s mate 2nd class, aboard the USS PC-1214 in the Atlantic theater from 1944 to 1946. He was an active member in the Mason Organization, was a Hy-Vee store director shortly after the business was established, was on the board of directors during his membership at The First Christian Church in Burlington, Iowa and had his private pilot’s license.

Mr. Stewart is survived by three daughters; Dana Andre (Tom Stone), Cynthia Hoenigsberg (Mike Hoenigsberg), and Lori Stewart (Todd Kirchner); grandchildren Andrea Dotson (Mitch Dotson), Derek Andre (Josie Chandler), Merit Stewart, and Landis Stewart, along with 6 great grandchildren; sister, Jan (Stewart) Woods; brother Norm Stewart (Virginia Stewart); sister in-law LaVon Swisher and many nieces and nephews.

Marion was proceeded in death by his wife Barbara, his brother Jerry, and his parents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at First Christian Church, 900 Lincolnshire Place, Coralville, IA, with Pastor Jill Michel officiating. Friends may call after 10:00 am at the church on Friday. Family committal services will be at the Aspen Grove Cemetery, 2043 Sunnyside Ave, Burlington, IA, at 3:00 pm Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church.
