John J. Connelly, 76, of Solon, IA, departed this life on September 4, 2018.

John was born to John M. and Helen Kane Connelly on March 24, 1942, in Dubuque, IA. Having lived in Dubuque during his formative years they moved to Ottumwa and then to the Iowa City area. He attended Regina Catholic High school, graduating with the class of 1960.

John married Phyllis Winsell on September 23, 1967. To this union was born two girls, Becky and Megan.

John served in the National Guard for several years. He worked several different jobs ending employment with the University of Iowa in laundry service, retiring in 2004.

John loved to deer hunt, fish, play cards and trying to beat the odds in the casinos.

John’s family includes his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Becky (Roberto) and granddaughter, Athena. His Godchildren, Ann and Randy Hewitt, Theresa Bonneman, and Megan Tucker; two sisters, Helen Crosheck (Jim) and Carol Klug (Mike). Also surviving him are Helen’s children, Mary Ann (Randy), John, Michael (Laurie), Beth (Brian) and Theresa (Adams); Carol’s children, Jennifer (Todd), Erin (Michael) and Jeff (Sue); Several great nieces and nephews; Special friends, John and Karen Tucker, Megan, Jeni and Nate, as well as Chris and Kurt Greasel, Karen and Dave Lafrenz, Jared and Judd, Sharon Crosheck (Jake Young), Zoe, Kayla and Owen, Ron and Pat Ikan, and John; sisters-in-law, Midge Arnold (Jim), Rob and Mike, Lila Wells (Ken), Robbin, Rick and Daniel, Wilma Davis and Elton.

John is preceded in death by his daughter, Megan; his parents, nephew, Randy Wells; and sister-in-law, Doris Winsell.

Visitation will be held Friday, from 3-7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018, also at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
