Cecil Allen Organ, 83, of Solon, IA died Monday, August 14, 2018 in Iowa City with close family at his side. He was preceded in death by wife, Peggy (McCrea) Organ, and brother,
Harold “Pat” Organ, of Spring, TX. Married for 44 years, Cecil and Peggy are survived by children, Marlana (Blaine) Miller of Cedar Rapids, Allen of Solon, Elycia (Erik) Hansen of Everett, WA; grandchildren, Connor and Quinn Miller and Milla Hansen; siblings, Janet (Carol) Hayek of Cedar Rapids, Dolores (Dan) Sullivan of North Liberty and Gene (Luci) Organ of Eugene, OR.

He was born March 2, 1935, in Homestead, IA. He earned degree in engineering from Oklahoma A&M. He moved back to the area working at Collins Radio, MRC and Sheller Globe/United Technologies.

Cecil was exceptionally gifted with the camera, capturing in film the wonders he found in nature, and grandkids, of course. He was a member of Camera Club in Iowa City for many years. Among his most enjoyable times were those that allowed him and Peggy to travel to camera competitions across the Midwest. His trip slide shows caused jaws to drop.
Faith and community fulfilled him. Cecil was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Solon Optimist Board and enjoyed calling Bingo during Solon Beef Days. You may have even seen him tallying and presenting the Bike Rodeo awards too.

He loved spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren’s events: from the many music events (Connor), to the many baseball games (Quinn) and listening to original songs sung (Milla) to him, all held a special place in his heart and gave him great joy!
The family would like to thank all of the nurses & doctors at Mercy Hospital, and the Iowa City Hospice staff for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to St. Mary’s Parish in Iowa City, Solon Optimist Club, or Mercy Hospital in Cecil’s name.

Thank you Dad for the many life lessons you taught all of us! We were blessed to know you and you will be missed, but always remembered!

A Memorial Mass will be held at 9am Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iowa City. (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets near the church). Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Iowa City, Solon Optimist Club or Mercy Hospital Foundation.
