Old Settler Called Home
At his home at Rose Hill in the suburbs of Iowa City occurred the death of Gilbert R. Irish Sunday morning at half past eleven. He was about 74 years of age and had lived in the vicinity practically all his life. He came to this section of the country in 1838 and settled on Rose Hill with his parents when he was one year old and when the entire country was prarie with but few habitations.

He was of a studious nature and has been for many years an authority on Johnson county history. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, one sister and two brothers.

The funeral was held from the home Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. R. S. Loring, pastor of the Unitarian church.
