Richard Leland Joslyn, 89, of Iowa City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence following a brief illness. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Richard was born on January 5, 1929 in Oak Park, IL, the son of Leland and Margaret (Heiserman) Joslyn. He graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester, IA. Following high school, he served in the United States Armed Forces and after being honorably discharged, returned to Manchester where he worked as a meat cutter at Super Value. Richard later went on to own and operate a family restaurant with his wife, Joyce Gerdes Joslyn, all while raising their children. They later divorced. He then married Kay Geary Joslyn and the couple resided in Iowa City where Richard worked at the Iowa Memorial Union as Food Service Manager until retiring in the early 90's.

In 1994, Richard and Kay retired to Winterhaven, Florida, where they became active members of the Nazarene Church. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and golfing. In his later years, he traded his golf clubs for a paddle and became an avid table tennis player.

Richard will be most remembered for his kindness, his quirky sense of humor, and his optimistic outlook on life. He was a loving father, a proud grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family.

Survivors include five children: Vicki (Bill) Tyckoson of Eden Prairie, MN, Jeffrey(Marti)Joslyn of North Liberty, Jay (Corinne) Joslyn of Iowa City, IA, Cheryl Graham of North Liberty, IA, and Michelle (Alan) Ahrendsen of Anamosa, IA; two step-children: Mark (Tina) Geary of South Dakota and Marcia (John) Lennher of California; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Joyce Scheel of Manchester, IA.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Kay, his parents Leland and Margaret, infant son Richard, and his brother Dave Joslyn.
