Alice Eileen Ahlberg, 95, died Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Solon Care Center, Solon, Iowa.

A family gathering will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Friends of the Animal Shelter Center Foundation, Iowa City, Iowa.

Eileen was born on April 5, 1922 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania to Harry R. and Mary Ethel (Hull) Barrett. When she was a young girl, her family moved to Chicago, Illinois. On January 25, 1945, she married Thorsten J. Ahlberg in Chicago, Illinois. They lived in Chicago and Park Ridge, Illinois, Manhasset, New York and Sun City West, Arizona. They moved to Iowa City in 2003. Eileen was a homemaker, enjoyed square dancing and tap dancing, had a part-time radio show, ran annual church fund raisers, loved dogs, enjoyed playing bridge and card games and she loved candy.

Eileen is survived by her children; Jan Ahlberg of Iowa City and James (Pamela) Ahlberg of Sparta, New Jersey; grandchildren, Robin Dull (Laurie Kardos), Karen (Eric) Kubacki, Pamela Korda, Ellen (Jeff) Vandaveer, Peter (Joanna) Ahlberg and Meredith Ahlberg; son-in-law, Bruce Korda of Naples, Florida; great-grandchildren, Simon and Josie Dull, Eleanor and Sofia Kubacki, Julia, Jacob and Jonathon Vandaveer and Olivia and Iris Ahlberg and two sister-in-laws, Jane Peters and Suzanne Ahlberg.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her daughter Jeanne Korda.
