Goldie D. Royston, 92 of Iowa City died Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the Crestview Care Center in West Branch surrounded by her loved ones.

Goldie D. Schropp was born July 11, 1925, in rural Johnson County, near Oxford, the daughter of Earnie and Alice (Hospodarsky) Schropp. She was united in marriage to Jack W. Royston on December 4, 1944. Not only did Goldie care for her family and home, she also assisted her husband in his causality insurance business for many years. Goldie loved singing and was in the St. Patrick’s choir for many years. She attended ceramics and painting classes and became excellent at both. She loved painting on all kinds of saws, canvases and iron skillets. Most of these were quickly snatched up by her relatives and friends. Goldie and Jack always loved to fish and would often sneak away to fish after the kids went to school.

Her family includes three daughters, Sandy Romer (Larry) of Muscatine, Jill Royston and Kelly Royston of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Clint Royston (Natalie), Wendy Berry (Chad), Chad Romer (Megan), Nikki Bricker (Amanda) and Heath Christianson (fiancee-Tova); eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Olson, Delores Mikelson, and Deanna Macri..

She was preceded in death by his parents, husband, Jack; son, William “Bill”; brothers, Walter and Roger Schropp; and sisters, Leona Cochran and Alice Nash.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 am until services on Wednesday at the church where a parish rosary will be recited at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Iowa City Hospice.
