Lyle William Miller, 89, a resident at Oaknoll Retirement Residence, died Thursday, November 16, 2017, following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be at 11 am on Wednesday, November 22 at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9 am until service time at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be held at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue (adjacent to Lensing Funeral Home). Private family burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Oaknoll Foundation, 1 Oaknoll Court, Iowa City, IA 52246.

Lyle was born December 27, 1927 in Iowa City to C. Hubert and Leona (Brown) Miller. He was a life long resident, and graduated from Iowa City High School and the University of Iowa with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946. On September 3, 1949 Lyle married Mary Jane McArdle.

His career was in construction, and his contracting company constructed about 250 Iowa City homes, most of which were designed by Lyle. He also designed and constructed several apartment complexes, including Rochester Square and Cambridge Place. He was a past president of the Iowa City Homebuilders Association; past director of the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce; past chairman of the Iowa City Airport Commission; member and past trustee of the Iowa City Methodist Church; past member of the Oaknoll board of directors; and a 57-year member of the Iowa City Noon Lions Club.

Lyle enjoyed travel, having visited all 50 states and 13 countries. He also enjoyed playing bridge and northern Minnesota fishing.

Lyle is survived by his son, Mark, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and daughters Jane Altenbach (John) of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and Susan Noser (Bill) of Iowa City. Also survived by his brother Richard Miller (Betty Bergman) of Iowa City, and six grandchildren, Mark (Melissa), Katherine, and Patricia Altenbach, and Ryan, Robert, and Elizabeth Noser.
His wife of 54 years, Mary Jane, his twin brother Leslie, and his three sisters, Shirley Ahlgren, Phyllis Landau, and Miriam Negahban preceded Lyle in death.
