Dr. Terence Heaton Williams, 88, died Thursday, November 16th, at home in Coralville. He was born January 5, 1929 in Oldham, England to Joseph E and Mona (Heaton) Williams. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dr. Glenys (Parry); his sister Pauline (Desmond) Wright; children: Ruth (Steve) Simonson, Jonathan (Chung), and Jeremy (Tamara); five grandchildren: Caleb, Michael, Andrew, Amy, and Tom; and close friend, Dr. Jean Jew.

Dr. Williams had a distinguished academic career in neuroanatomy, with MD, PhD, and DSc from the University of Manchester (England). He held teaching positions at Trinity College, Dublin, the University of Manchester, Harvard University, the University of Virginia, Tulane University, and the University of Iowa, where he arrived as chair of anatomy in 1973. He published significant research papers and important teaching tools, often in collaboration with friends or students. He had a passion for issues of justice.

In later decades, he struggled with great resolve against multiple sclerosis.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, November 19, at Lensing Oak Hill (210 Holiday Road Coralville.)

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or other programs that provide food for the hungry.
