Iowa City Stores are Burned

Fire in the store of Mrs. Hattie E. Horne at Iowa City caused a loss of $60,000. Lena Delschied, a saleswoman, in attempting to light the gas dropped a burning match in a pile of cotton battling and the store was soon a blaze. The stock, valued at $35,000, was a total loss and the building, owned by W. P. Coast, was damaged to the extent of $10,000. The fire spread to adjoining buildings. The other losses are: G. M. Lewis, grocer, $3,000; Suppel & Moore, clothing, $3,000; Price, Heith & Co., jewelry, $1,000; C. Suppel, building, $2,000; other stocks and buildings damaged by water and smoke, $6,000. All carried partial insurance, James Wahnke, fireman, was badly burned.
