The Sharon High School Declamatory contest was Wednesday night. Those speaking were: Oratorical: Carroll Chipman, Gene Marner, Miriam Pieper, Wallace Fisher and Walter Winborn. Dramatic: Jeanette Hughes, Pearle Hughs, Ida Meer and Marjorie Schwimley. Humorous: Lilah Plecker, Dean Kesselring, Ada Meer, Emily Yoder and Calvin Yoder.
January 16 a surprise birthday party was held at the Clarnece Shenk home. The occasion being Iona's birthday.
Those present besides the honoree were, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shenk, Hazel, Harold, Gladys, Clair and Juanita, Mr. O.A. Kessleer, Leona and Maxine, Earl and Daisy Grout, Irvin and Jesse Grout, Glenn Snider, Carol Chipman, Dorothy Burkely, and Clair Bailey.

Hazel Shenk, bride-elect of Clair Bailey, was honored at a shower January 26. Hostesses for the pre-nuptial were Mrs. Jesse Grout, Mrs. Raymond Zook, Mrs. Albert Spenner, Mrs. Lyle Zahradnek and Mrs. Wayne Zahradnek. The marriage will take place February 9 in Lone Tree.
Tom Bailey is home enjoying a few days vacation from his school work at Cedar Falls. Larry and Jim Grout are also spending a few days vacationing from their school work at Iowa University.

Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Weeber honored Miss Helen Maier at a miscellaneous shower in their home. Near the close of the evening the thirty five guest received announcements giving out the information that Miss Maier and Harold Weeber were married last December 31st. Calvin Stutsman is confined to his home with the flu.
Harold Weeber has moved onto his fathers farm where he will live and help on the farm this coming year.
