John "Jack" L. FISHER was born on March 14, 1923, in LeClaire, IA to John and Hazel GILBERT FISHER. His early years were spent in a one-room schoolhouse until the 8th grade, after which he joined the workfore, helping several local farmers. He worked for a bakery in Davenport, but it was his marriage to Martha OLIVER on Christmas Eve of 1947 that set the course for a lifetime of love and companionship. Following their wedding, the couple resided with Martha's parents until settling in rural Douds, where in 1952 they purchased their family farm--a place that would see them work side by side for the rest of their lives.

In addition to maintaining the farm, Jack worked at Barkers in Keosauqua and as a USPS mail delivery truck driver. He also spent 10 years as a dedicated employee at Rockwell until his retirement.

Jack was a gifted musician who could play the violin, guitar, and bass purely by ear. He and Martha traveled to various music festivals, sharing their love of music, and creating memories. When Jack had time to himself, he enjoyed reading a good book on history or old trains. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends he made along the way.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John L. FISHER and Hazel GILBERT FISHER; his loving wife of over 70 years, Martha FISHER; and his four siblings, Calvin, Hazel, Dorothy, and Richard. His legacy continues through his remaining family: his brother, Bill (Pat) FISHER; his four children, Lonnie (Nellie) FISHER, Kathy (Dee) DECKER, Linda (Leon) CONNELLY, and Gary (Kamala) FISHER; seven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
