Chester HARLAN Dies Suddenly Of Heart Attack

Chester A. HARLAN, 308 E. Washington, died suddenly of a heart attack about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.

His body was found in the wash room of the Harrison DX service station at 120 E. Burlington. HARLAN was rushed to the Jefferson county hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Harold Harrison, operator of the station, said customers attempted to get in the rest room and it was locked. After several had attempted to get in, he feared someone inside was either sick or unconscious.

He climbed up to look through a register in the wall of the rest room and could see someone inside on the floor. He notified officers and an ambulance. The glass above the door was broken out and the door unlocked. The door was locked on the inside with a small sliding bolt lock.

HARLAN had been working as a painter at the Bradshaw furniture store earlier in the day and apparently was on his way home when he stopped at the service station.

Born In 1889

Chester A. HARLAN, 84, was born Sept. 5, 1889, at Stockport, the son of Elihu and Alice WASSON HARLAN. He was reared and educated at Stockport, and was married Feb. 23, 1910, to Benna WATSON.

He had made his home in Fairfield for the past 53 years. He formerly operated an ice cream factory and in later years was employed at the Louden Machinery company until his retirement.

Last rites will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond funeral home with the Rev. Ned Gillum in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

HARLAN is survived by his wife and one son, LaVerne HARLAN, Mt. Pleasant; and one grandson, David.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and one grandson who died in infancy.
