CHARLOTTE MAE FLEIG
Fairfield

Charlotte Mae FLEIG, 80, took her last earthly breath at 5:37 a.m., March 21, 2024 and joined her husband, Merrill, on the other side at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

Charlotte was born April 3, 1943 in Lone Tree, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard Leroy and Iota Francis BIXBY BILLMAN. She married Merrill Eugene FLEIG on June 11, 1961 in Washington, Iowa.

Charlotte graduated with the class of 1961 from the Lone Tree Schools. In high school she was involved in 4-H and FFA. The first two years of their marriage, Merrill and Charlotte lived in Pleasant Plain. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1977, when she went to work for Kelley & Morrissey doing abstract work. In 2002 she was elected Jefferson County Recorder until retiring on March 25, 2011.

She was a member of Questers, McElhinny Women's Club and Victory Club. She was also the family's genealogist, keeping everyone up to date on births, deaths and weddings. The knowledge she took with her is irreplaceable.

She was preceded in death by her husband Merrill (2007), her parents, Leonard (1976), Iota (2013), and stepfather, Bob JONSON (2006), and brother, Larry BILLMAN (2023).
