IRA W. MILLER
Fairfield

Ira W. MILLER, 87, of Fairfield, died at 4:35 p.m. June 25, 2022 at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown (note: in Marshall Co., IA).

He was born June 3, 1935 in Moline, IL to Roy Franklin and Margaret May BROWN MILLER. Ira married Janet Lou COMER on March 11, 1955.

Growing up in Eldon, Ira served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, doing two tours in Vietnam and also serving in France, Germany and Korea.

Ira had worked as a meat butcher at Kings IGA and Supervalu in Fairfield and also worked at Big E Lumber in Fairfield and Burlington and Steele Lumber in Fairfield. He was lead custodian for 15 years at Fairfield High School. In retirement Ira worked at Hy-Vee in the deli and on the outside grill.

Surviving are his wife, Janet; their children, Douglas M. (Deborah L.) MILLER of Fredricksburg, Daniel L. MILLER of Birmingham, Donald D. MILLER of Cedar Rapids, Dale F. MILLER of Fairfield, Lou Ann MILLER of Fairfield Dennis E. (Janette) MILLER of Missouri, Laura B. (James Russell) PERDUE of West Des Moines and Leisa C. (Elsworth) COOK of Fairfield; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Robert MILLER of Fort Smith, AR and Steven MILLER of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John B. MILLER, and a sister, Christie.

Visitation will be open at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30 at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery (note: in Ottumwa, Wapello Co., IA) with military honors conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
