... --Mrs. Richard GAINES of Burlington who underwent a major operation at the Burlington hospital Tuesday morning is reported as recovering as well as can be expected. Her father, Fred JONES of Washington, and her sister from Cedar Rapids have come to be with her and Mrs. GAINES brother, Floyd GAINES and brother-in-law, John WARD, of this city were in Burlington the first of the week. The GAINES' daughter, Shirlene, a freshman at th (sic) University of Iowa this year has returned home for the summer.

MRS. R. GAINES RITES TUESDAY

Mrs. Richard GAINES, 38, of Burlington, passed away yesterday afternoon at 4:40 o'clock at the Burlington hospital after an illness of ten days following an operation (note: in Des Moines Co., IA).

Services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the local Presbyterian church where the body will lie in state from 1:00 o'clock until time for the services. Rev. Carl Victor Brown of the Presbyterian church of Burlington will have charge of the services, assisted by Dr. Curtis R. Douglass. The body is being brought to the Monger funeral home today. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Lorene JONES was born in Washington, Iowa on August 4, 1906, the daughter of Fred JONES of Washington and the late Calista JONES who preceded her in death 12 years ago. She was married to Richard GAINES twenty years ago Saturday, on May 26, 1925.

Surviving are her husband and one daughter, Shirline; a brother, Lester JONES and a sister, Mrs. Harold WEEKS, both of Cedar Rapids.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Walker, W. E. McWilliams, Zell Brown, H. B. Patton, Wayne Harris and Gerald Fetzer.

Ladies in charge of the flowers will be Mesdames Raymond Walker and Zell Brown.
