Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Lot Old.P.297. He has both a military gravestone and a civilian one. The civilian stone lists his date of death as Feb. 15, 1879, at age 66, however the style of stone appears to be from a later time period and the DOD may not be accurate. Vital records were not required to be kept at the county level in IA until July of 1880, and the 1880 Census Mortality Schedule does not cover early 1879. The application for the military gravestone lists a DOD in 1879, however that application was made in 1934, and so the DOD may not be accurate there either. No articles were found for Peter's death in 1879, and the 1881 year of death is believed to be the more accurate one. Peter was married to, and divorced from, Eliza Jane BOLDEN, and subsequently married to a Catherine PALMERTON; he is buried with Eliza, however.
