JACK L. BERRY
Libertyville

Jack L. BERRY of Libertyville was born on a farm near N. English IA. to Dorothy PENNINGTON BERRY and Howard Knipfer BERRY and passed away Oct. 26, 2018 at home on his farm near Libertyville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday October 31, 2018 at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with Rev. Beth Harbaugh officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery (note: in Burlington, Des Moines Co., IA) following the service. Visitation for family and friends will be 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday October 30, 2018 at the Behner Funeral Home.

Jack attended Green Valley and W. Burlington grade school and Denmark Academy High School. After a year at Iowa Wesleyan College, he was drafted into the Army and served in Korea. Upon return he enrolled at U. of Iowa and graduated in mechanical engineering. In his career in aeronautical and hydraulic engineering he traveled extensively and resided in 9 different states across the U.S., from Seattle to Florida and California to New Hampshire, and in Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Egypt, and other African countries.

Twenty years ago Jack retired to breed cattle on his farm in Libertyville and to renew old friendships and make new ones. Many of his friends remember him as a strong, independent man of good humor and few words, which at times he used to express incisive or humorous thoughts or just to tell a good story. During the past decade he was spiritedly coping with the progression of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (a Parkinson-like disorder) and he succumbed on the 26th. He was predeceased by his wonderful brother, Dr. Howard E. BERRY and his parents Howard and Penny (Dorothy). He is survived by his sister Mary K. BERRY BERLYN and Graeme BERLYN of Hamden CT, nephew John BERLYN of Pittston, PA, niece Dina BERLYN of Hamden, grandniece Eleanor BERLYN of NYC, and grandnephew James BERLYN of Asheville NC.

The family thanks the many neighbors, friends, and dedicated home-caregivers, past and present, who together formed a community that helped him so cheerfully and willingly and in so many ways and also the many more distant friends and relatives who think about him , sometimes, we hope, with a smile (sic).
