Chalres F. "Charley" BARNETT, 87, of Ottumwa died October 27, 2018 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

He was born February 14, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois to Charles Frederick and Nell BARNETT.

A graduate of Parsons College, he served 16 years in the Iowa National Guard, retiring as Captain.

He served as Director of Admissions at Parsons College and then as Executive Director of the Fairfield, Yuma, AZ and Ottumwa Chambers of Commerce. He had been a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield and was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #347 in Ottumwa. Charley was an avid golfer.

Surviving are his son, Mike (Terry) BARNETT of Keenesburg, CO; four grandchildren, Angela, Brandon, Steven and Tina; 13 great grandchildren and a nephew, Richard (Janey) STEPHENSON of Tucumcari, NM.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean and a sister, Grace STEPHENSON.

His body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. The family will be present one hour prior to the memorial service on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
