Service for POHREBN set

BRIGHTON -- Funeral services for Leo J. POHREN, 86, who died Wednesday morning at New London Care Center, will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Church in E. Pleasant Plain. The Rev. Louis Leonhardt will officiate with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

POHREN was born Nov. 2, 1892 near Germanville in Jefferson County, the son of Jacob and Anna PEIFFER (sic - PFEIFER) POHREN. On Jan. 25, 1921 he married Dorothy DRISH at St. Mary Church in Fairfield. She died July 21, 1978. A granddaughter, five brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are one son, Richard of Brighton; a daughter, Marjorie COUNTRYMAN of Birmingham; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He attended St. Mary Church in Fairfield and more recently St. Joseph Church. An Army veteran of World War I, he served in the Infantry in the United States and France. He farmed near E. Pleasant Plain until 1943, then moved to Fairfield and worked at the Iowa Ordinance Plant in Burlington.

Later he worked at Dexter Company in Fairfield while living with his daughter. He moved to his son's home in 1974 and had been a patient at the care center since January, 1978.
