Evelyn M. ADAM, 94, died June 14th, 2018 at Sunnybrook Nursing Home in Fairfield, Iowa. She was born February 27, 1924, in Lake Andes, South Dakota, the only daughter of Anthony and Lena (BECHEN) SOBASKI. The family settled in the Brighton area and Evelyn attended and graduated from Brighton High School. After graduation, she worked at the Ordinance Plant in Middletown, Iowa and then moved to Chicago, IL where she worked as a "Rosie Riveter," making airplane wings during WW II.

During this time, Evelyn married the love of her life, Donald ADAM, on December 22, 1944, in Chicago. They soon moved back to the Richland area where they established their home farm, which is still farmed by their grandsons today.

Evelyn loved being a farm wife and mother and she took great honor in these roles. Farming was extremely important to her and she was known for her large garden and flock of chickens. She loved working alongside Don on the farm.

Her family was the highlight of her life. She loved visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn and Don liked to travel and for 18 years after retirement, they resided in Pharr, Texas, during the winter months. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2004, shortly before Don's death.

Evelyn was a member of Mother Cabrini (Richland) and St. Mary's (Fairfield) Catholic Churches. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, sewing and quilting, riding her three-wheeled bike around Richland, and mowing her lawn.

Evelyn is survived by her three daughters, Marsha SIEREN and husband Jerome of Cedar Rapids; Diana HAMMES and husband, Mike, of Davenport; Sharon GRAY and husband, Randy, of Sammamish, WA; daughter-in-law, Jane ADAM, of Fairfield; eight (sic - nine mentioned) grandchildren: Stephanie SIEREN of Mesa, Arizona; Steve SIEREN and wife, Stacey, of Hedrick; Maureen GRUENHAGEN and husband, Eric, of Eldridge; Shawn GRAY and wife Raquel of Camas, Washington; Jamie BURRELL and husband, Ryan, of Carnation, Washington; Brandi MUELLER and husband, Chris, of Cedar Rapids; Brent ADAM and wife, Lena, of Richland; Troy ADAM and wife, Amanda of Richland; Michael BOLTON of Bettendorf; 17 great-grandchildren: Taylor BOLTON, Sesali MARTIN; Weston and Kiyono GRAY; Madeline and Owen BURRELL; Carolyn, Livia and Ada MUELLER; William, Henry, Leo, Levi, Luke and Lauren ADAM; Karl and Tory GRUENHAGEN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Bill ADAM; granddaughter, Margo (HAMMES) BOLTON; her parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert SOBASKI.

A Rosary will be 4:00 pm, Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church, 306 West Main, Richland, Iowa with a visitation to follow until 7:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church with Father Nick Adam officiating. Burial will follow the mass in Friends Cemetery, Richland, Iowa (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).

Memorials may be made to Mother Cabrini Catholic Church, St Mary Catholic Church or Alzheimer's Association.
