William York, who enlisted at 13 years of age and played fife in the Civil war, was buried at Ashton, Tuesday morning. He had been in poor health at the Soldiers’ Home in Marshalltown, several years.
Mr. York was born at Richland, Ia., Sept 15, 1848 and was nearly 80 years of age. He was a member of Iowa Regiment No. 40, enlisting in 1862. He was united in marriage to Margaret Borts in 1893 and she died in 1916. Since then he lived at the home.
One brother, George of Kansas City, who is 84 years of age survives, also five step-children. Four brothers and a sister preceded him. Early in life he was converted in the Methodist church. Later he united with the Church of Christ.
