August Krampe, a resident of Malaka township since 1867, died at the hospital in Marshalltown at 6:30 o’clock Saturday evening from uremic poisoning. Mr. Krampe had been in poor health since about the first of the year, but it was only within the last three weeks that his condition was deemed serious. Last Tuesday evening he was taken to the hospital for examination and treatment and it soon became apparent that his condition was extremely critical and that his death was a matter of time.
August Krampe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans H. Krampe was born in Johnsville, Wisconsin on October 20, 1859, and died April 5, 1924, aged 64 years, 5 months and 15 days. In March 1867, the family came to Jasper County, Iowa settling in Malaka township, and on this farm Mr. Krampe continued to reside up to the time of his death. He was educated in the schools of the township and there grew to manhood.
On September 25, 1895 he was married to Miss Louisa Kanne, also a resident of that township. To them were born three children, one daughter, Mrs. Walter Herzog of Baxter and two sons, Albert L. and David H. both residing at the farm home. In addition to his wife and three children, deceased is survived by one brother Henry Krampe of Baxter, and one sister, Miss Minnie Krampe, who lived in California, and by many other relatives. Mr. Krampe was a man who always believed in looking on the brighter side of life, believing there was good in all things and that every cloud must have its silver lining, and few ere the times when he was down cast in spirit. This disposition won him many friends, all of whom will miss his cheery word, his pleasant smile and the bit of song as he walked along the street for he loved to sing and did so at all times, often unconsciously.
Early in life he united with the Bethany Reformed church and to its teachings he remained steadfast up to the time of his death. Perhaps sooner than anyone else Mr. Krampe realized that his condition was serious and about two weeks ago he told some friends that perhaps his life was drawing to a close, but if it was he was ready and willing to go.
August Krampe was a loving husband, a kind father, a good neighbor and a loyal friend, and his demise brings a feeling of loss to his friends, many of whom did not know he was even sick.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock from the family home, conducted by Rev. Bosma, pastor of the Bethany Reformed church, and was largely attended by relatives and friends. Interment was made in the Bethany cemetery. Following were those from out of town attending the funeral: J. P. Alleman and wife, Mina Alleman all of Slater, Iowa; Henry Silwold, Mrs. Wm. Rader, Newton; Walter Krampe, Mrs. Carl Brandt of Marshalltown; John Osten and wife, Melbourne; Chas. Tienke; Henry Herzog, Hubbard; and Miss Dorothea Kanne, Kanawha.
