Mrs. Eva V. Richards, 68, native Jasper county resident, died Monday at 2:45 a.m. at the Skiff Memorial hospital, following a two weeks’ illness. Death was due to pneumonia.
Mrs. Richards’ death occurred just five weeks and five days after the death of her sister, Mrs. W. E. Moore of Bristow, Okla.
Funeral services were conducted from the Morgan funeral home in Newton Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. by Dr. J. Irvine Walker, pastor of the Newton First Congregational church. Interment was in the cemetery at Lynnville.
Born near Lynnville
Eva Haines Richards, daughter of Timothy and Eliza Haines, was born near Lynnville, in Jasper county, Iowa, Nov. 28, 1866, and spent her childhood and girlhood days on her father’s farm southwest of Lynnville.
She was united in marriage to John M. Richards on Jan. 2, 1889, at the home of her parents and to this union three sons and one daughter were born.
The couple moved to a farm near Laurel, Ia., where they lived for 11 years. While there, Mrs. Richards was baptized and joined the United Brethren church and throughout her life she was faithful to her religious vows.
Moved to Oklahoma
They moved to Oklahoma in 1901, living there 10 years, and then to Arkansas for two years. The next year was spent in Kentucky, after which they returned to Iowa in 1915, and lived in and near Newton for the last 18 years. Her husband’s death occurred Aug. 7, 1923.
For the last seven years, Mrs. Richards and her son, Dan, have been operating the Westwood Tourist camp, located two miles west of Newton on highway 6.
Surviving relatives include her three sons, Daniel, Charles E., and Everett J., all of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Everett Balmer of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. J. P. Brunner of Newton, and five brothers, E. S. Haines and F. C. Haines of Newton, J. H. Haines of Des Moines, D. F. Haines of Grinnell, and M. G. Haines of Oakland, Calif.
