Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ash, 84, were conducted Friday at 10 a.m. from the Murdoch funeral home by Dr. Leslie B. Logan, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church.
Interment was in the Slagel cemetery located in the Hixson Grove neighborhood southeast of Newton. Pallbearers were three brothers, T. G Russell of Newton, C. A. Russell of Pierre, S. D., and G. W. Russell of Oskaloosa, and three nephews, J. S. Russell of Des Moines, Murray Russell of Newton and Don Russell of Oskaloosa.
Mrs. Ash died Wednesday evening at her home, following several years of ill health and a week’s critical illness.
She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, the W.C.T.U., and D.A.R., and The Newton (IA) Daily News’ Three Quarter Century club.
Surviving relatives include five brothers, J. M. Russell of Wichita, Kan., John W. Russell, jr., of Gary, Okla., G. W. Russell of Oskaloosa; T. G. Russell of Newton, and C. A. Russell of Pierre, S. D.
