Richard Dean Pendroy
January 20, 1947 - August 2, 2025

Richard Dean Pendroy, of Monroe, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at his home of over 50 years. A home constantly filled with family and friends, love, laughter and memories.

Rich was born on January 20, 1947, to Dale and Mae (Taylor) Pendroy. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1965. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps serving in Vietnam with Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. Rich remained proud of his service until his passing. Once a Marine, always a Marine!

On December 6, 1969, he was united in marriage to Patricia (Pat) Burns of Prairie City. Rich attended DMACC Building Trades school where he learned a trade that would become a career and legacy. Most known for cabinetry, fireplace mantles and finish/trim work, he built and remodeled homes in central Iowa before passing the business on to two of his sons.

In his free time, Rich enjoyed so many things - hunting, fishing, boating, his flower garden, traveling, all genres of music, history and family gatherings. His greatest joy, however, was his kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

Rich is survived by his wife, Pat, children David (Cari), Darin (Erin), Mark (Casie) and Megan (Zac) all of Monroe; Grandkids – Luke (Katie), Lauren, Taylor (Noah), Hailey, Carly, Owen, Ella and Lainey; Great Grandkids – Daxton, Jaxon, Huxley and a new granddaughter this winter! He is survived by siblings Jim (Natalie), Jack and Diane; and Pat’s siblings; Mike (Pat), Shelda (Pete), Shirley (Mick) and Wayne (Brenda) along with many extended family members and dear friends. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Pat’s parents, Bill and Dixie Burns. Siblings and spouses - Steve and Janet Bacus, Don and Ann Pendroy, Tink Pendroy and Sid Vander Ploeg. Niece and nephews, Hung, Brian and Jackie.

Visitation will be August 6, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with Funeral services August 7th at 10:00, both at the Presbyterian Church. Lunch will be served at the American Legion in Monroe following the funeral. Memorials may be directed to The American Legion Fred Slayden Post 363 or the Jasper County Youth Fishing Club.
