Mary Jo was born in Pasadena, California on November 1, 1953, the daughter of Duane and Margaret Ann (Millburn) Clark. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1971 and then attended Iowa State University. She was united in marriage to Les Hostetter on November 25, 1972, at Immaculate Conception Church in Colfax. She was an employee of Principal Financial Group for most of her working career and retired in 2019 with over 40 years of service.

The most important things in Mary Jo’s life were her faith, her family, and her friends. Mary Jo volunteered as a religious education teacher and choir director for more than 35 years. She took adult education classes through the Diocese of Davenport and was an active member of the Altar & Rosary Society in the parishes in which she was a member. Mary Jo was blessed to have all her children and grandchildren attend Colfax-Mingo schools, and she enjoyed attending all of their school activities, dance recitals, and sporting events. Taking her boys and grandchildren to shows at the Civic Center was always a special event. Her friends were always up for lunch or a movie or just an evening gathering to catch up. Mary Jo traveled with several friends on birthday trips to Ireland, Alaska, New York City, Hawaii, and Italy.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband of 52 years, Les; her sons – Bill (Rachel) Hostetter and their sons Brandon and Garrett; Steve (Malinda) Hostetter and their children Sydni and Shane; David Hostetter and his children Kennedi, Dakota, Ilia, and Elias; and a great granddaughter Denver June Hostetter; brothers Mike (Kim) Clark of Knoxville and Frank (Kristy) Clark of Prairie City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, a granddaughter Sierra Hostetter, and five cousins – Sandy (Guthrie) Collins, Ken (Doug) Clark, Steve Guthrie, Sherry (Guthrie) Lovett, and Jay Millburn.
