Funeral Services Held Tuesday Afternoon From Cutter-Hartnett Funeral Chapel
Maurice Hartnett, 63, Colfax miner, died Saturday, January 15th at his home in southwest Colfax.
While his death was unexpected, Mr. Hartnett had been in poor health for several months.
Maurice Hartnett, son of John and Anna Harnett, was born in Iowa, January 29, 1874. He died at his home in Colfax, January 15, 1938. Age: 63 years, 11 months, 16 days.
He came to Colfax with his parents when 12 years of age and the remainder of his life was spent in and near Colfax.
When a boy, he began working in the mines and always followed that occupation. For a number of years previous to his death he was an entry-driver and became very proficient at that type of work. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters, and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Pinegar Hartnett and four children: Thomas Lee, John Raymond, Anna Louise and Barbara Jean. He is also survived by two sisters: Mrs. James Gorman of Peoria, Illinois and Miss Ellen Hartnett of Colorado; two brothers, Carl Hartnett of Gillispie, Ill., and Harry Hartnett of Benel, Illinois, a number of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Cutter-Hartnett Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Russell G. Nye officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Geo. Rinker, Mrs. Earl Plummer, John A. Davis, and B. F. Van Dyke, with Mrs. Cleo Wall at the piano.
Pall bearers were Tom Wilson, Oscar Soderholm, Ray Henline, John Gay, Jack Stremfel Sr., Lester Dodd and Frank Stremfel.
Interment was in the McKeever cemetery.
