Evelyn (Peggy) L. Gummert, 98, of Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, formerly of Marshalltown passed away on Saturday March 24, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on March 28, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to Faith Assembly Of God Church.
Evelyn Louise Oswalt was born on June 17, 1913 near Colfax, Iowa, she was the youngest daughter of James and Harriet (Conway) Oswalt and attended school in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating with the East High School Class of 1931. Peggy was united in marriage to Harold C. Gummert on April 9, 1936. During World War II she worked as a secretary at the Visiting Nurse Office in the YMCA building, she had worked at the Times Republican Office in accounts receivable, and then worked for Lennox Industries from 1946 until her retirement in 1976 in the office and in keypunch. Peggy was a Member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in Marshalltown. She loved to work in her yard, write poetry, shop and make doll clothes and hats. Peggy will be remembered for her sense of humor, and her caring and giving to others.
Left to cherish Peggy are her nieces and their families: Louise (Beryl) Rupp, and Su (Ed) Hazelton.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Harriet, her husband, Harold, her sister, Lucile Dooley, and a nephew, William Dooley.
Friends, neighbors and anyone who knew Peggy will miss her.
