Gisela Anna Maria Brunner, 87, of Baxter, Iowa passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Altoona Nursing and Rehab on Saturday, November 26, 2022. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ with Pastor Christopher Hayward officiating. A private family burial will take place in Bethany Cemetery in Baxter.

Gisela was born on May 29, 1935, in Stuttgart, Germany to Otto and Emma (Holzapfel) Suffel. She grew up in Germany where she graduated from Volkschule. Following school, she began working at a chocolate factory. While working there she met the love of her life Kurt Brunner. Gisela and Kurt were married on June 7, 1956, in Stuttgart, Germany. While visiting her sister in Baxter, Iowa they decided to move to the United States as well. In 1961, they moved to Baxter where they raised their family together. She worked at Baxter Nursing Home for many years as a CNA.

Gisela was a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ where she served as the treasurer for many years, the Bethany Women's Fellowship Group, and Bethany quilters. She loved spending time with her family, shopping, cooking German food, watching TV especially her soap operas, gardening, flowers, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her husband Kurt Brunner; children Uwe (Cindy) Brunner, Tonya Brunner, Angela (Randy) Lust, Andrea (Chris) Garton, and Anita (Jeff) Smith; grandchildren Malena (Nate) Billups, Nicholas Brunner, Easton Brunner, Brandon Brunner, Mercedes Brunner, Andrew Hopkins, Brice Hopkins, Derek (Heaven) McDermott, Daniel (Maricruz) McDermott, Seth (Megan) Garton, Chelsea (Dustin) Fox, Stefan Garton, Deven (Taylor) Smith, Erin (Zach) Suntken, and Ryan Smith; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Erika Krampe; brother Herbert (Paulette) Suffel; sisters-in-laws Hilda and Kathe; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Walter, and grandson Lincoln Garton.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter.
