Dennis Alvin Tool
September 24, 1941 - May 18, 2022

Dennis Alvin Tool, 80, of Prairie City, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 18, 2022.

Dennis was born on September 24, 1941, in Newton. He attended school in Monroe and Newton (Class of 1960), prior to enlisting in the US Navy in 1959 and being stationed aboard the USS Helena. After proudly serving his country, Dennis returned to Newton where he worked several full-time and part-time jobs before ultimately working at and retiring from John Deere plant in Ankeny after 26 years.

Dennis cherished time with family and close friends. He enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, including: chasing trophy fish in Canada, boating, exploring the Rocky Mountains, biking, and participating in various types of hunting over the years. He was an enthusiast of classic cars and classic rock. He owned several classic cars over the years and loved to frequently attend car shows. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Dennis could often be heard retelling his life experiences in small gatherings of friends, family, and strangers. He was a genuine people-person who would talk to anyone and everyone. Dennis was also a companion to many "good dogs." He treasured making his famous sourdough Christmas cookies with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren each Christmas season.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth, and brother, Dwight.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Barb of 38 years; children, John (Tamara) Tool and Laura (Jay) Grimes, Marcy Wilkerson and Juston (Laura) Jennings; sister Phyllis (Val) Olson; his 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 3:00 pm at the Prairie City United Methodist Church.
