Rickey L. Shannon, age 54 of Newton, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at MercyOne in Des Moines. Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Memorials may be directed to Progress Industries and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Max L. Shannon and Betty (Wilcutt) Hulin, Rickey was born on July 29, 1966 in Pella, Iowa. He attended school at the Beacon Light School in Newton, Lincoln Triad School in Newton, Ruby Van Meter in Des Moines, Woodward and Pleasant Hill Developmental School. While growing up he attended the Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Rickey worked at Mid-Iowa Workshop, Progress Industries and Johnson Aviation.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, loved watches, going out to eat, listening to music, being outside and watching nature, looking for airplanes and hot air balloons, going to airports, going on drives to see the countryside, joking with friends (hiding and scaring people or tapping on the windows, biking and puzzles.

Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Betty Hulin; two sisters, Tammy DeHaai and Kim Bazer; two nieces, Amber (Tim), Tina (Dylan); three nephews, J.C. (Jessica), Scott (Sasha), Rogar and six great nieces and nephews. Preceding Rickey in death was his father, Max in 1998. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Monroe, Iowa 18 Nov 2020.
